Zyxel GS1920-48

Description

With the latest generation of chipsets, the GS1920 series offers various security features: Virtual LAN (VLAN) can be configured using port or MAC addresses. Predefined guest, voice and private VLANs are also available. To make the network even more secure, GS1920 Series traffic can be filtered. Based on Layer 3 and Layer 4 policies (ACL) and the support of multiple RADIUS and TACACS+ servers, the switches support secure authentication for larger networks. Ready for modern triple play networks, the new GS1920 series offers a wide range of QoS capabilities. Whether data, VoIP or even IPTV applications are needed, it doesn't matter: Policy-based class of service ensures high transmission quality. In addition, various multicast options such as IGMP-Snooping v3, Fast-Leave and MVR guarantee a reliable network with real-time traffic such as IPTV and/or IP surveillance.more

Network switches

A network switch or switching hub is a computer networking device that connects network segments.
The term commonly refers to a network bridge that processes and routes data at the data link layer (layer 2) of the OSI model. Switches that additionally process data at the network layer (layer 3 and above) are often referred to as Layer 3 switches or multilayer switches.
The term network switch does not generally encompass unintelligent or passive network devices such as hubs and repeaters.
The first Ethernet switch was introduced by Kalpana in 1990.

Switch model
i

Switch model

Specifies the design of the switch. Rack models often do not come with a rack mounting kit. This must be purchased separately.

19" rack
i

19" rack

A 19-inch rack is a standardized frame or enclosure for mounting multiple equipment modules. Each module has a front panel that is 19 inches (482.6 mm) wide, including edges or ears that protrude on each side which allow the module to be fastened to the rack frame with screws.

Rack Unit
i

Rack Unit

A rack unit, U or RU is a unit of measure used to describe the height of equipment intended for mounting in a 19-inch rack or a 23-inch rack (The 19-inch (48.26 cm) or 23-inch (58.42 cm) dimension refers to the width of the equipment mounting frame in the rack, i.e. the width of the equipment that can be mounted inside the rack). One rack unit is 1.75 inches (44.45 mm) high.

1000 Mbit/s

In computer networking, Gigabit Ethernet (GbE or 1 GigE) is a term describing various technologies for transmitting Ethernet frames at a rate of a gigabit per second (1,000,000,000 bits per second).

Management function
i

Management function

The switch has a management function. In addition to the basic switch functions, they also have control and monitoring functions that can also be based on information from layers higher than Layer 2, such as IP filtering, VLAN, prioritization for Quality of Service, routing and other functions that are helpful for monitoring and controlling a network. Depending on the manufacturer, these switches can be controlled via the command line, a web interface, special control software or a combination of these three options.

Layer 3
i

Layer 3

The term layer 3 switch is somewhat misleading because they are multi-function devices that represent a combination of router and switch. The term layer 3 switch usually stands for advanced high-performance switches, which have been extended by IP routing functionality (and vice versa). Layer 3 switches are used in areas where high performance (high router data throughput) is required. The emphasis on switch functionality has its roots in marketing: one does not want to be associated (according to marketing convictions) with old-fashioned, complicated and cumbersome routers (and their manufacturers).

Quality of Service (QoS)
i

Quality of Service (QoS)

The quality of service (QoS) refers to several related aspects of telephony and computer networks that allow the transport of traffic with special requirements. In particular, much technology has been developed to allow computer networks to become as useful as telephone networks for audio conversations, as well as supporting new applications with even stricter service demands.

Link Aggregation
i

Link Aggregation

Link aggregation is a common term in IEEE 802 and describes a method for bundling several physical LAN interfaces into one logical channel. The first implementations of this technology came from Kalpana (now Cisco) and originally served exclusively to increase data throughput between two Ethernet switches. Today's implementations can also connect servers and other systems via link aggregation.
