Wirewin S/FTP patch cables are characterized by their high quality and are suitable for Gigabit connections with operating frequencies of up to 250 MHz. Applications for category 6 cables include voice, multimedia, and data transmission, as well as ATM networks. The conductors made of 100% copper are double-shielded, and the cable features strain relief. The jacket is made without halogens and is highly flame-retardant. Unlike conventional PVC cables, these cables are halogen-free: the dangerous release of halogenated combustion gases is thus excluded, and smoke generation is minimized. Halogen-free cables are also difficult to ignite, and there is no dangerous ignition cord effect. Screened Foiled Twisted Pair (S/FTP) refers to cables that have a metallic shield around each pair of wires (FTP) and an additional overall metallic shield (S). In shielded cables, impedance or reactance deviations are minimal compared to unshielded ones. The transmission parameters remain relatively constant and better than those of UTP cables, even at high frequencies. Cat 6 cables are designed for operating frequencies up to 250 MHz and are often used in professional environments. At longer lengths, transmission speed may suffer, but slight excess lengths are generally acceptable depending on external influences. Application areas for Cat 6 include voice and data transmission, as well as multimedia and ATM networks.
