The WD Red is designed for use in storage systems with 1 to 8 drive bays. It features exceptional NASware 3.0 firmware, outstanding reliability, and intelligent design that minimizes vibration and reduces waste heat.

The drive features NASware 3.0 firmware technology, which is optimized in WD Red for systems with 1 to 8 drives. The firmware provides seamless integration, robust data protection and optimal performance for systems operating in NAS and RAID environments. It reduces common hard disk problems in NAS system, including compatibility, integration, upgradeability, reliability, and total cost of ownership issues encountered with a hard disk drive designed for desktop computers, thereby increasing the performance of NAS storage.

Desktop drives are usually not designed for RAID environments and have controls that prevent the RAID controller from intervening in the event of a failure. With built-in intelligent error handling control, NASware 3.0 prevents drives from being disconnected from the RAID due to excessive error handling. This feature provides more availability and less downtime for rebuilding the RAID.
