It is placed in front of the model with the opening facing up (or slightly tilted) and illuminated from the front above with soft light (reflector sail, softbox, diffuser) in such a way that the light is reflected from below into the subject's face. This reduces or completely prevents the often disturbing shadows under the nose, mouth, chin, cheeks and eye sockets. On top of that, it conjures up a bright reflection of the wide reflector surface in your subject's eyes that looks a bit like a smile. The reflector is delivered in a handy bag.
