As a carefree lion cub, Simba can hardly wait to become the king of the sacred land. His father, Mufasa, carefully prepares him for this role and teaches him about the eternal circle of life. However, Mufasa's treacherous brother Scar has devised a wicked plot with the hyenas to usurp Simba's throne. He lures Mufasa into a deadly trap, forcing Simba to flee. While on the run, he meets new friends - Timon and Pumbaa, who make his life enjoyable and worry-free again. With them, Simba lives carefree day by day until he encounters his friend Nala, who tells him about Scar's reign of terror. Simba must choose between fun and duty.
