Product details
The new Tokina Hydrophilic Coating Filter is particularly beneficial for professional filmmakers shooting videos in rainy or very humid environments. It is also useful for sports photographers, landscape photographers, and nature photographers who need to shoot in wet weather and do not want to constantly wipe water droplets and dirt off their lenses. When water hits the new Tokina Hydrophilic Coating Filter, it spreads into a uniform, invisible film over the glass. This allows for a clear image at any time, even in the rain, enabling the capture of high-quality film material.
The Tokina Hydrophilic Coating Filter is available as a round filter in sizes 77, 82, 86, 95, 105, 112, and 127 mm. Filter sheets are available in sizes 4x4” and 4x5.65”. This works by charging the filter using sunlight or other UV light. The underlying effect is due to a process called photocatalysis, where light charging creates so-called excitons (bound electron-hole pairs) that break down water and dirt into their molecules.
The charging of the filter thus prevents droplet formation while also promoting the organic decomposition of dirt on the glass surface, allowing it to dry quickly and remain clean. Due to its extra-thin frame, it can also be used without limitations on wide-angle optics. In addition to the classic round filters in all common screw-on sizes, the Tokina Hydrophilic Coating Filters are also available in two sizes as filter sheets. Thanks to the special treatment of the surface, this filter is four times harder than normal optical glass, making it exceptionally robust. This means that even in the rain, filmmakers can achieve an almost undiluted view of the subject and crystal-clear shots.
