The "Wooden Wonder" is presented in an impressive 1/32 scale! This term was used for the De Havilland Mosquito series of aircraft, a brilliant and beautiful design where the versatile plane was made almost entirely of wood. In the late 1930s, when the design work on the Mosquito began, metal was the predominantly preferred material. However, the designer of the Mosquito recognized that metal would become a precious resource in the impending war. Furthermore, his extremely lightweight wooden aircraft could outperform heavier metal opponents. Mainly constructed from balsa wood layered between birch sheets, the Mosquito was originally designed as an unarmed bomber. As the military and designers realized that the aircraft could withstand enemy fire even when hit, several variants were produced. The FB Mk.VI debuted in the spring of 1943: this fighter-bomber variant was equipped with four 7.7 mm machine guns in the nose, as well as four powerful 20 mm autocannons and the capability to carry four 500-pound bombs. Its outstanding speed and range ensured that the FB Mk.VI was used in a variety of missions, including attacks on key targets and infrastructure in Germany. It is often said that the German Luftwaffe had no proper response to the "Mossie" until the arrival of the Messerschmitt Me262.
