It also proved to be extremely bright and significantly more contrasty than its brother, the X85L, which is hardly any cheaper. The natural colour reproduction will please football fans and discerning film fans alike.
Slightly brighter, slightly better black reproduction than its predecessor: The XR-65X90L scores as a mid-range TV with a good overall package, extensive features and high ease of use. The TV quality and sound should be perfectly adequate for most TV households. Overall, the Sony is a strong performer.
Many criteria can play a role when buying a new television: Size, picture quality, sound or network functions, for example. However, the price often comes first. The good news is that good TVs are already available for around 450 euros.
The X90L only plays to its strengths to a limited extent in the 65-inch variant we tested. Instead, you should keep an eye on the 75-, 85- and 98-inch models, which offer real home cinema dimensions. The fact that the X90L is based on tried-and-tested LED LCD technology and that Sony does not dare to experiment with smart TV hardware does not automatically make the X90L an uninteresting TV...
