In January 2022, the Rally World Championship entered the hybrid era and introduced the new Rally1 cars, which replaced the World Rally Cars that had been used since 1997. Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier both participated in the Monte Carlo Rally, each driving a different Rally1. After an exciting duel between the two Sebs, Loeb won the Monte Carlo Rally 2022, following a flat tire for his opponent in the penultimate stage. This marked his eighth victory in Monte Carlo, where he drove his first rally in a Ford and his first rally with co-driver Isabelle Galmiche. He also became the first winner of the hybrid era in the WRC, a historic moment in many ways.
