Product details
The Rollei F:X Pro Reverse GND 8 (3 Stops/0.9) is a graduated neutral density filter. GND stands for graduated neutral density, which refers to a filter that transitions from tint to transparency. These filters are partially coated in neutral gray, allowing for the balancing of brightness differences in the image. Typically, the coating on GND filters tapers off to one side. However, "reverse" means that the gradient of the tint is inverted. This indicates that the coating is particularly strong in the middle of the filter and tapers off softly to one side while tapering off very sharply to the other side.
GNDs are used (unlike regular ND filters) for subjects where the brightness conditions have a specific gradient and therefore require different exposures for a uniformly exposed image. An ideal application for a Reverse GND would be, for example, an image featuring the sun where clear lines dominate the composition.
To permanently eliminate errors in the new professional filters, Rollei has developed the quality management process "Engineered And Quality Controlled in Germany." This process begins in the development phase and does not only come into play during the final quality control: Rollei's specifications are the sole basis for all subsequent production steps and are determined exclusively by experts. Retroactive reductions in requirements are excluded.
