The Rollei F:X Pro Medium GND is a graduated neutral density filter, which refers to a gray filter that transitions from tint to transparency. In graduated filters, the coating fades to one side. The term "Medium" indicates that the intensity of the tint gradually decreases from one end of the filter towards the center, without a very hard cut or a very soft end. GNDs are used for subjects where the brightness conditions have a specific gradient and therefore require different exposures for a uniformly exposed image. A classic application for a Medium GND is, for example, photographing a city center, which features many different elements and brightness levels, thus needing to be precisely categorized between Hard and Soft GND. A Medium GND compensates for such scenarios.
