The Rollei F:X Pro Medium GND is a graduated neutral density filter, which represents a gray filter with a transition from tint to transparency. In graduated filters, the coating fades to one side. The term "Medium" indicates that the intensity of the tint gradually decreases from one end of the filter towards the center, rather than ending with a very hard cut (Hard GND) or very soft (Soft GND). GNDs are used for subjects where the brightness conditions have a specific gradient and therefore require different exposures for a uniformly exposed image. A classic application for a Medium GND is, for example, capturing a city center that features many different elements and brightness levels, thus needing to be precisely categorized between Hard and Soft GND. A Medium GND effectively balances such scenarios.
