Product details
The Space Shuttle, developed by NASA, is the only reusable space transportation system in the world. It consists of the components orbiter (spacecraft) with three reusable main engines, an external fuel tank, and two solid rocket boosters, providing a total launch thrust of 12.46 MN (1,270,566 lbf). The shuttle can carry 24.5 tons of payload and 7 astronauts into a low Earth orbit between 200 and 650 kilometers in altitude. Since October 3, 1985, the fourth shuttle, Atlantis, has been in operation for 35 missions. The shuttle program was retired in 2012 after more than 30 years.
The model features textured surfaces, a replica of the tile structure, an astronaut figure, cargo bay doors that can be optionally opened, and landing gear that can be built to be either retracted or extended. It includes an ESA space laboratory, an airlock, a space telescope, a robotic arm (payload arm), and thrusters. Additionally, there is a super decal sheet with maintenance markings and identifiers for the shuttles Discovery, Enterprise, Endeavour, and Atlantis before 1998, as well as for the shuttles Atlantis, Discovery, and Endeavour after 1998.
