Yamaha CD-S303
CD player
The main advantages are already mentioned in the other posts.
I replaced my perfect (!) 35-year-old Technics CD player with the CD S303. Conclusion: the highs and mids are somewhat more detailed with the S303, the lows slightly weaker. The unit is driven by an Onkyo TX NR 747 with Magnat speakers and a Yamaha woofer. Coupled with a fibre optic cable. Stereo operation, as well as 6 channel stereo, is very detailed and clear. Nevertheless, the sound is not sterile. The somewhat weaker bass could easily be compensated by putting more weight on the woofer. The "Pure Direct" function makes the sound even slightly softer.
It can (almost) only play CDs, no other sounds like streaming or the like. And that's a good thing: keep it simple.
By the way: yes, it also reads other formats via USB interface: I tested it with MP3: Sound good, tags are read, fits.

I would buy this Yamaha CD player again in a heartbeat. I used it to replace an old high-class ARCAM CD player and can't hear any difference in acoustics. A good choice for me.

The "old" CD player has been discontinued. With the new one from Yamaha, I can easily integrate it into my stereo system.

Good sound quality, but no proliferation of buttons - it's a shame they're made in China!

The device does exactly what it is supposed to do, it plays CDs. In good quality to my ears. The CD player is also beautifully designed.

Pure joy to use.
The remote control is unnecessarily bulky.

Very good CD player for this price. Dynamics and detail like more expensive players. Even has a USB port (but I don't need it). Fits perfectly on a Yamaha amplifier/receiver.

Hard to believe, plays CDs that were no longer playable on my Onkyo CD player. A real enrichment. Classical music as well as crazy techno songs are reproduced crystal clear and dynamically rich. I would say this Yamaha player is a top hit.

ATTENTION: Install the latest firmware version for proper operation. Unfortunately, I was still using 1.30, which led to popping, clicking and distortion in playback with some media after some playing time (e.g. home-burned audio CDs).
Version 1.37 made it even worse, so that you couldn't even play ordinary CDs continuously.
On 4 October 2022, Yamaha released FW 1.48, which worked perfectly.
Version 1.61 is currently released, previously 1.53. But I'm sceptical about it myself. If you have already updated and are dissatisfied, you can switch back to ver. 1.48.

Download the file " updata.cdp " to the top of an empty USB stick (must be FAT16 or FAT32) and carry out the update according to the instructions.

I bought the Yamaha CD-S303 because I already own a Yamaha amplifier. I believe that it is an advantage to use components from the same brand whenever possible.

Picked up, wrong device cd s303 (silver instead of black) handed over.
Expense exchange, annoying!
A CD player for people who still use home music systems with buttons for the functions. For people who don't use streaming, the ability to play music from a USB stick is a valid substitute. Also reads AAC files.
