I bought this NUC as a desktop replacement and am very happy with it. However, installing Windows 7 is quite a challenge and the card reader does not work under Win 7. I then installed Win 10, which went without any problems.
You also have to buy an M.2 SATA hard drive and DDR4 SO-DIMM RAM with the NUC. I opted for 2x 8.0GB HyperX Impact (2133) and a 250GB Samsung EVO 850. No compatibility problems.

This one is a surprising little performer. Usually, for a small Plex server or light web-browsing machine someone would choose the cheaper 6i3SYK with core i3, but I chose this one for one big upgrade over the core i3: the intel iris 540. The graphics alone makes the 6i5SYK worth it as one could use this as full blown PC with gaming (35 - 60 frames per second) bonus. Many of the current games run just fine on this machine with the unit itself making not much noise and if you want even hidden on the desk/ behind monitor.
Pair it up with the Samsung M.2 950 pro or the SM951 for the fastest performing read-write SSD luxury life. I have the SM951 and it flies with 1675MB/s reads and 1300MB/s writes!

Works fine right away (with FreeBSD 10.3).
Fast computer in the smallest space with all necessary connections
Ideal mini PC for an ESXi6 Homelab! I now have 4 VMs running on this NUC 6th Gen: OpenVPN Access Server, Vortexbox Mediaserver, Sophos UTM Firewall, Nextcloud and there is still potential for more. You can find various instructions and configuration examples on the Internet. A second network card (Gigabit Ethernet) can be retrofitted via a USB3 adapter, e.g. for a firewall configuration.
