Garmin Index Smart Scale

Finally the thing is running and now I am really happy with it, especially with the automatic upload to Garmin Connect, the consistent measurements, and the design. However, the setup cost me a lot of nerves. Actually, the initial setup was done in about 5 minutes, but the upload (data synchronisation) was anything but stable. I tried many things with different routers, network settings (channel<9, no multichannel, etc.), profile settings on iphone/garmin connect, etc. but in 90% of the measurements I only saw an "X" on the scale instead of the longed-for ">>>>>>>>>> ok".
Remedy: To cut a long story short, I finally found a hint on https://forums.garmin.com/forum... that the scale should connect to Garmin's own NTP server "clock.garmin.com", which is often unresponsive (from Europe). The problem has been recognised and known for 2 years, but disappointingly Garmin does not seem to do anything to solve this problem with a firmware update! I have now done it myself... for those who dare to do it: I dialled into my Asus AC68U router via telnet, statically redirected the domain name "clock.garmin.com" in /etc/hosts to a Swiss NTP server IP (IP chosen due to ping on pool.ntp.org), and restarted the network service. Now the scale works perfectly! :-)
So if you are considering buying this product, you should either first make sure that NTP clock.garmin.com works without problems from the respective location (windows cmd: "w32tm /stripchart /computer:clock.garmin.com /dataonly /samples:5) , or try such a hosts fix (or DNS server tweak). Otherwise, the data upload will most likely not work properly, which of course is not at all the point of this product.

After the weight measurement, 99% of the values are not uploaded to Garmin Connect.
This is because the scale is only connected to the WLAN after the weight measurement.
Then the values are no longer transmitted to Garmin Connect and remain locally in the scale.
This is not due to the WLAN signal, my Garmin Edge and all other devices in the WLAN run perfectly.
The scale has now been replaced, but unfortunately the same problem with the new scale...

I already use a Garmin Fenix 5 Plus and find this scale the perfect addition! The installation is child's play. Unpack, insert the batteries, add the scale to the Garmin Connect app, connect to the Wi-Fi and stand on it. All important data is synchronised and added to the app.

I agree with the other opinions. Top-quality product. There is nothing to complain about here. The set-up also works without any problems. Then the frustration begins: Sometimes the WiFi connection works, sometimes not. For every 10 attempts, the connection worked a maximum of 1 time. Absolutely unusable. Even placing it directly next to the internet router did not improve the situation. The product is unfortunately unusable. Too bad, because I use several Garmin devices and find the Connect app quite good.

Simply does not work. The Wi-Fi connection does not work, tested with a Swisscom router and a UPC cablecom. Without a Wi-Fi connection, it is therefore impossible to make it work! The same problem is shared by a whole community (see for example the comments on Amazon). THIS PRODUCT IS SIMPLY NOT READY TO BE MARKETED!

Technology that doesn't work, smart scales where you can supposedly synchronise all the data, which only works in one out of 20 cases. It's better to save the money and note down the values yourself.

Hands off this scale!
I spent hours trying to install the app and configure the user account. It was impossible to add more users and finally the scale could not connect to the smartphone (Apple). Absolute disaster!

Very good scale if you have other Garmin products such as fitness trackers or similar.
Garmin user account is a must-have -> with the app version absolutely no problems with connection to the WLAN.

The body fat as well as the muscle percentage does not fluctuate by several percentages within two-three days, but these scales seem to perform the measurements relatively reliably and consistently. These measurements can thus provide information about what is changing in the body. However, the measured values can deviate greatly from reliable or scientific measurement methods (around 15% in my case). First and foremost, I don't want to know the exact KFA percentage, but what is changing.
It should also be said that for reliable measurement values, measurements should always be taken at the same time of day...
The automatic upload via WLAN to the user account also works smoothly and makes the manual entry superfluous. The workmanship is of high quality and the scale does not look bad in the bathroom.

Very satisfied. The set-up was also problem-free.

Basically a good idea, but the scale does not live up to its promise. Large discrepancy between two weighings, scale delivers results of a wrong person (although 5kg heavier), complicated registration, etc.

What a moronic and complicated product. The initial setup with the iOS app worked. But primarily it's about sharing information via social media. I couldn't manage to invite a flatmate (my wife). Sending the scale information to my mobile phone didn't work either, despite multiple setups, pairings etc. That's why I'm returning the product.

Installation (already have other Garmin products) went smoothly and the part still looks great. Only the price is a point deduction.

Super thing. Very motivating and the installation was super easy.
I had no problems connecting the scale to the Wi-Fi. I am very satisfied with how the scale works. Unfortunately, the values such as fat percentage, water percentage etc. are not very accurate. However, the scale only measures the soles of the feet and not the hands, which would make the analysis more accurate. There are more accurate analysis scales that are in the same range.

I was a bit reluctant before ordering, but after looking through the SW release notes, I'm ordering it:

So far everything is running smoothly, the set-up was fast and reliable. My only observations are as follows:
- Weight shows about 150 grams less compared to precision scale.
- Body fat percentage dropped from Fitbit to Garmin from 17% to 7%, which seems extreme to me. However, I do not know my "effective" value.

Great product, unfortunately you have to create a Garmin account for each user in order to use the scale personalised. This is certainly not a problem for adults, but in my opinion it is overkill for children and probably not allowed according to the terms and conditions.
Nevertheless, the scale does what it is supposed to do.

I bought the scale despite the many bad reviews because I already have a Garmin sports watch. With the Carmin account, I can pair both with the same app. I am completely satisfied, unpack, set up, connect to wifi and add to account. Everything worked without a hitch and is up and running.
Works perfectly and displays the data very well in the connect app.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! My index worked perfectly at the beginning. The weight measurement is actually very accurate. The adjustment in the app was problem-free. I had then "optimised" my router and from then on nothing worked. The thing had already booked its flight down to the street...
Solution: I read in a forum that the scale can only use WLAN channels up to 9. So I lowered the WLAN channel in the router (e.g. 5) and the scale started sending data again! I am happy (again) ;-)

This product fails to deliver on one of its main objectives - to synchronize the collected data over wifi. I have been using it for over 6 months and my experience shows that out of 15 measuring attempts, the Index Scale would synchronize and record the data on average only once. Therefore, far too often you need to spend 10-15 minutes in morning, to ensure that your data would be stored and synchronized. This is simply a waste of time and honestly, it is very annoying, especially given the price you paid.

Unfortunately, I can't judge the accuracy. I like the look of the thing very much and it motivates me to the maximum.

Very reliable and top quality workmanship.
works perfectly with the app on iOS
Good scale, have had it for 4 years now and no problems except that it sometimes loses contact with the Wi-Fi.
