Garmin Index S2 Smart Scale
181.40 kg
I was able to set up the scale very quickly. I had no connection problems - neither with the mobile phone nor with the WLAN. The data is automatically synchronized with the Garmin account.
Additional people can be added without problems if they have a Garmin Connect account.
So far, I can not share the opinion of the negative reviews. I am very satisfied with the scale.
PS: I received the scale as a gift and am therefore not a "verified buyer".

A product/software/user manual like this should be urgently revised. After trying for 3 hours to pair a 2nd participant (both have Garmin Connect accounts), I read in the reviews here that this is probably not intended in Switzerland. The review is already 3 years old. I have tried further. Device reset and first paired the other participant (IOS). Then tried to authorise myself as a friend - couldn't send a request at all. Performed another reset and paired my Android first again (pairing mode can be activated with the reset button). Then sent and confirmed a friend request for the Connect account, then sent and confirmed a friend request for the Index S2. Then the 2nd participant could be set and activated - a madness.....

On the internet voices about problems with the setup and connection. I can not actuate that.
The setup and invitation of additional people went with me uncomplicated and easy.
If it was really so and problems were there, Garmin has done the job well and improved. The wait for delivery has therefore paid off.
Report after 2 hours
The batteries were inserted according to the instructions. Then the reset button was activated. The Index S2 smart scale was immediately found on the mobile phone. Pairing was never possible. Although the connection code was sent from the scale to the mobile phone (the code could also be entered in the app), pairing was always unsuccessful. Therefore, the following was tested:
1. mobile phone and scale shut down again, switched on again.
2. uninstalled & reinstalled Garmin App
3. existing Garmin Vivoactive 3 (watch) installed (15min for nothing)
(so it can't be the phone iOS or the Garmin app).
4. about 30 minutes of online research. According to the information, the WI-Fi must meet certain requirements. However, the S2 smart scale shows the "Bluetooth" sign. If the WI-FI is disabled on the phone, the scale but grumbles - so yet WI-Fi problem.
5. the scale was taken to the office, because there is the newest router from Swissom with the best connection. Unfortunately, the scale could not be paired there either. Work colleagues found it but still funny.
5. various attempts to pair the S2 smart scale. Apparently, the latest Internet from Swisscom can not be paired with the S2 smart scale. On the Internet and in this forum there are various such messages.
Conclusion:
- Precious 2 hours of life lost (excl. report, return shipment)
- Lost weight due to annoyance approx. 20 grams
- I am now asked daily in the office about my weight
- Garmin: Never again. The Vivoactive 3 is cool, but even there gibts again and again problems with the connection and Garmin also knows (hundreds of online reports).
This scale is not to use. Since it is one of the most expensive anyway, it is not so bad, you just buy a cheaper one that works.

Unfortunately, the scales are definitely as bad as many reports on the Internet suggest. I stood on the scales twice in a row, one time I weighed 72kg and the next time 64kg. Apart from the "calculated" data, which is arbitrary, this scale can't even weigh simple weights. It also keeps losing the programming/connection to the Garmin account and the users are no longer available on the scale. I consider selling and advertising this product in this way to be wilful fraud!

I had no problems with pairing, no problems with connections (used: samsung note 10+).
I would buy it again.

Tried setup with Pixel5, Pixel3 and an iPad. Pairing is possible in Bluetooth, but setup fails with "Pairing failed"

Fat measurement with Garmin Index showed approx. 25%. Even after I had lost 3kg. Professional measurement then showed 17%. Conclusion: the thing is no good, especially as the fat measurement was my motivation for buying it.
Measured my weight several times in a row and there was up to a two kilo difference, useless for my needs

I have compared several scales, including the Garmin Index S2. Unfortunately, I realised that the Garmin does not even display the weight correctly. The measurement result is always 400 - 500 grams higher than with all other scales.
I compared it with a calibrated scale from the doctor and other scales from various manufacturers.
The only scale that was extremely off is the Garmin.

If you have Garmin Connect and want to upload weight data to the app, this scale is a must-have.
However, in terms of the amount of data and (graphical) presentation in the app, it cannot compete with other brands such as Renpho, which are also much cheaper. So if you are not in the Garmin universe, you should buy a different scale

Preliminary remark: We use the scales in a two-person household and I am quite tech-savvy.
Setting up the scales: a real pain.
* First establish a Bluetooth connection with the scale via Garmin Connect using a smartphone
* Then dial the scale into a WLAN
* It may claim to be able to connect to your WLAN, but that doesn't mean it will work afterwards. It is very picky about Wi-Fi and will not work in well-protected environments; you may need to set up a poorly protected IoT guest Wi-Fi.
* If it doesn't like your Wi-Fi, it won't do anything. Then you can't simply delete the Wi-Fi; you have to reset it and set it up again.
Use: Pretty random.
* Weight display is accurate to +/- a few 100g; two consecutive weighings can result in a significant difference in weight. The body data fluctuates accordingly.
* It seems to be a matter of luck whether the scales recognise the user. Today, for example, the scales recognised me as my partner and made her 20 kg heavier. You can't just take that off again.
Solution: Delete your partner from the scale and set it up again.
* Sometimes the scales don't want to synchronise. Then your weight does not appear in Garmin Connect.
Summary: Not recommended for purchase.

Worked superbly for a year until an update ... the scale no longer synchronizes. Back under warranty.

The scale is quite inaccurate and sometimes deviates by more than 2-3 kg compared to other scales. (always higher)
The other measurements such as select muscle mass, body fat etc. are also not accurate.

It's a great looking scale; it measures the weight correctly, but the other values are not realistic. The scale is certainly good for simply setting a baseline for yourself and then keeping an eye on it and being able to work on it. Based on a recent measurement at the sports doctor, I have a body fat percentage of 18.5%, but the scale shows me 29%, which is a range of almost 10%, and that shouldn't happen. I'm keeping the scale anyway as I like it as an object but the measurements are mostly for the A...., sorry I can't say it any other way.

I am actually a technology nerd, but this device drove me crazy.
When I set it up, it took me several attempts until I was connected and until I was recognised as a user.
As soon as I added a second person, I was no longer reliably recognised (weight difference +10 kg). Likewise, the second person could not connect to the Bluetooth even after 20 attempts (latest generation iPhone).
I have not been able to install any updates yet, because the scale kept switching back to the normal weight display instead of showing a loading bar.
I would advise against buying this scale and would gladly return it...

I could not connect the scale to the WLAN although it was immediately recognised by the Garmin app via Bluetooth. Neither with 5 nor with 2.4 GHz, with none of my three Android devices on which the Garmin "Connect App" is installed. It also does not work in two other networks (Salt, or two different Cablecom). The same can be found here with other buyers among the 1 star ratings. As has unfortunately been the case with Garmin for a long time: The hardware is OK, (Navy Garmin Edge etc.) but the software is often rubbish.
I then bought the Withings Body+, which was set up in a few minutes.

All the measurements apart from weigh are completely off. I compared it with a dexa scan.
also not consistent enough for it to be calibrated properly
