Clean and solidly manufactured CD player with very good sound characteristics in terms of detail and sound dynamics. It's just not clear to me why the device has such a deep housing. To make matters worse, there is a mains plug with a badly bendable power cable. Has anyone at Denon ever installed such a device in a cabinet?

This is an amazing CD Player.
Nearly 20 years ago, one had to pay 10'000CHF+ to get these performances from a Denon DCD-SA1.
Now Denon brings the same, and even better to you, at a fraction of that price.
The Denon DCD-900NE showed the best measurements I've seen from a CD player.
Distorsion is vanishingly low (0.0002%), jitter non existent, crosstalk not measurable, Noise is the one of the CD audio, SNR the best you can get from 16bits, intermodulation distorsion is below the resolution of CDA, etc... So that means everything that has been put on a recording will got out without disturbance.
From USB input, and when using higher resolutions files, it's even better, as I could see minimum 18bits free of noise/distorsion, and that's the limit of what I can measure.
When used as a transport, the digital output was flawless, exactly what's on the test CD. And so I tried to use an external high end DAC and I did not get anything better, since the internal DAC is incredibly good.
Only the AL32 filter could be improved as it showed some images of the conversion leaking at around 65kHz from 44.1kHz or 48kHz input files (and CDA). But all of that was at a very low level (-100dBr), so it can be ignored since again it is way below CD Audio format.
This is one of the best CD players of all times, and if you still like to spin the little silver disc, there you have the player.
