I knew what to expect, but the fact that the zoom range of the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM is so blatantly limited (zoom must be set to at least 300mm) is unpleasant. In addition, the barrel is extended by about 10cm at 300mm, which results in an unwieldy length of the lens when stowing it in a photo backpack.
This is actually the only thing that really bothers me. Everything fits on the 800mm f/11, and focussing is possible without any problems despite the f/16 aperture.
The imaging performance is very good, even with high-resolution sensors. (EOS R5 / EOS R7)
The high price put me off for a long time, but in terms of flexibility the converter is a great gadget that I wouldn't want to be without.

In contrast to the 2x converter, which in my opinion only achieves good results with the large fixed focal lengths, the RF 1.4x can also be used well with the other compatible lenses. Unfortunately, these are still quite few due to the design. I can recommend the converter for the RF 100-500. In low light conditions, however, the combination reaches its limits.

I use the converter on the RF 800, making it an 1120mm lens at f/16. My R6 has no problem focusing on a reasonably clear subject. At long distances through lots of air it gets tricky, but that was to be expected. I use it for moon and sunspot photography and wildlife. I knew what to expect and my expectations were not disappointed.
The converter only works with certain RF lenses due to the design, be sure to check before buying.

Better suited for fast lens. Still need to test it in sunlight. Only had it for a month.

I'm not sure whether I can recommend it for so much money or whether I would buy it again. The drawbacks are much more noticeable than the positives.
Most suitable for professionals with fast fixed focal lengths over (10'000.-).
