According to the manufacturer, only German is supported.

No, it is in German.
It's not a language issue, it's a reading problem on your side.
It states in the specifications that it's german, deutsch, allemand, tedesco. If it doesn't mention another language, it's very likely there isn't another language.
How about it not beeing possible to change the language, well, ask VTech. Galaxus just sells the product, they don't produce/program it.
