Probably works. But I would send the adapter back and order a suitable adapter. An adapter plug like this costs money and is a bummer.
Why exactly do you need the diversions via a cable? If you don't want wireless, Android supports USB tethering. (Alternatively via Internet via Bluetooth) I can't answer whether the iPhone can do it too. But I think it does.
