The TP-Link TX401 is supplied with two slot brackets as standard:
- Low-profile bracket (for narrow mini-towers)
- Standard adult bracket (full-height, for regular housings)
This means: It is not necessary to change to a high-profile bracket as long as you use the standard bracket supplied; it is already suitable for your housing and makes the use of a new network card or an external adapter superfluous.

Schau einmal in die Anleitung deines Mainboards. Gewisse PCIE Slots werden deaktiviert wenn du eine M2 verbaut hast,.
** When installing devices in M.2_2, PCI_E2 & PCI_E3 slots at the same time, PCI_E3 slot will be unavailable, and M2_2 slot only supports PCIe x2. Please refer to page 18 for details.
This was the worst card I ever bought - the drivers conflicted with my PC heavily. Would not recommend it!!! I bought instead MarvellĀ® AQtion AQN-107 10 GbE Network Interface Adapter which works beautifully
According to the TP-Link website, the card is for PCI Express 3.0 x4 slot. As far as I know, an x4 card cannot be plugged into an x2 slot, it doesn't fit in. I have it in an x16 slot and it works.
Yes, it runs on a PCIe 4 board. Speed remains at PCIe 3 x4 which corresponds to 4 GB/s gross, thus more than enough for 10 GBe, which corresponds to 1.25 GB/s. However, the card gets very warm, so a well cooled case is recommended.
Can't recommend this card.
I had one built into my computer and another into my homelab which runs 24/7.
After like maybe a year or more the homelab one started turning off during the night because of heavy traffic load.
Then out of the blue my card in my computer stopped working during online sessions (games, discord or downloading files).
It even came to a point were I did a speed test on both devices and it got stuck downloading while giving me an error.
Then after receiving a replacement both broke again after two weeks showing the same symptoms.
My advice, get abit more money and buy something accordingly like the Intel X550T2 which I will be testing soon.
I have this motherboard https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/msi-mpg-b550-gaming-edge-wifi-am4-amd-b550-atx-mainboard-13299616 with 2x PCIe x16 and 2x PCIe x1. The network card does not fit into the x1. One x16 slot is used by the graphics card (RTX 3070 TI). I have inserted the network card in the other but it is not recognised. The BIOS also shows that none is plugged in. I have already tried several BIOS settings, plugged it in again etc., updated the BIOS, all without success. I am desperate and have already read through 100 forums. I hope someone can help me here. Can I not use the card in the slot at all? Or is something defective?
Hello!
So technically the card fits into the slots in any case (you can also put it into the "big" PCI slots, that's how I have it). I am now running it under Windows 10 and it would be very untypical if it did not run on Windows 11. It doesn't say anything on the TP Link manufacturer's page either, but one if it says Win10 compatible, then that also applies to Win11.
I didn't have to install any special drivers, Windows does it all by itself. Installed, booted up, finished.
