When you buy a new hard disk, you usually have to reformat it anyway. I therefore recommend formatting the hard disk to FAT32 so that it can be used for Windows and Mac. That way you can attach it to both systems.
Hello Gabor Which DLNA server do you use to make the films available to the TV? Windows Media Player? And does the Toshiba have the same drive letter (e.g. F:) as the old disc? Make sure that the Toshiba is shared with its drive letter in the DLNA server (UPnP).
