No,the hard drive (HDD) in the Synology BeeStation is permanently installed and cannot be replaced with a solid-state drive (SSD). The device comes preconfigured with a 4TB HDD built-in.

Hello You must first create an account and set up the Beestation. Afterwards you can log in with the app name and password if the goods are brand new. On return, the station must be reset to factory settings.

Yes, you can assign it a fixed IP address via its network configuration interface, just like in DSM. Simply access the BeeStation's system settings, then in the network settings, choose manual configuration to define a static IP address excluded from your router's DHCP range.

The HDD is permanently installed, but you have the option of connecting another hard drive via USB, but only as a data transfer and not as an additional drive. In general, the BeeStation is rather cosy on the road and really only interesting for data backup / data access via the router. Even larger files take time to transfer. If you want a racing machine, a NAS might be the better solution.

For streaming films and playing music from the Synology BeeStation here are some important points to note: ### Movie streaming - Synology BeeStation does not support DLNA or UPnP protocols by default, which would be necessary for streaming movies to DLNA/UPnP-compatible devices such as Formuler media player. - However, there is the option to install Video Station, a Synology software that supports video streaming, but this requires specific configurations and may be limited on the BeeStation as DLNA/UPnP is not enabled by default. ### Music streaming with Sonos - To play music via the Sonos app, the music library on the BeeStation must be made accessible via SMB shares. However, SMB sharing is not enabled by default on the BeeStation and must be set up manually. - It is possible to install the Synology Media Server app and configure the SSDP advertising intervals to enable DLNA access, but this may also be limited on the BeeStation as DLNA is not supported by default. To summarise: There are some limitations and configuration requirements to use these functions with Synology BeeStation. It may be necessary to change specific settings and install additional software to achieve the desired functions.

No, not at all. Simply open an account on synology.com first, the rest is done automatically during the BeeStation installation, including remote access via the two apps BeeFiles and Bee Photos (no need to set any ports or other external access). Really plug & play, rarely experienced so effortlessly. I am impressed with the product, great price/performance. Caution: HDD 1 x 4 TB, no "fried egg" possible! I recommend installing 2FA (Secure SignIn app).

I'm about to install the BeeStation (1 x 4 TB, not mirrored). I also have a Synology DS218 (2 x 2 TB, mirrored). I connect the two via Windows Explorer (<drag/drop>). I'm sure there are other methods (Hyper Backup or similar), I still have to find out. Whether it makes sense to make a backup from the BeeStation to a Synology NAS or vice versa is up to you to decide.
