I had an Asus ROG Strix RX Vega 64 OC (298 x 139 x 52 mm) installed in my set-up - a milimetre job!
To be able to insert the GK, I had to remove the part with the power plug and then re-install it. Also possible with 2 left hands.
I used it with my MacBook Pro 2017" (Touchbar) and had more or less no problems - just software-dependent.
The dimensions vary depending on the manufacturer (ASUS, MSI etc.). The dimensions mentioned should help you as a guide.
Sorry. The product description is absolutely correct. There is the Breakway Box 550 and the 650 version.
The graphics cards mentioned do not work with this version, but they do with the 650 version.

You must consider the compatibility of the housing and the MACOS.
Regarding scripts etc. the following page helped me a lot to get my setup (MacBook Pro with Sonnet 550 and RX570) running under Bootcamp:

Apart from TB3, there is no other connection. (I assume you wanted to know if the mouse and keyboard etc. could still be connected via USB. No) The dimensions can be seen on the manufacturer's website.

It must be from AMD so that you don't have problems with High Sierra. Additionally, make sure you have the latest High Sierra version installed. If so, it is probably due to the "wrong" graphics card. Unfortunately, the effective cards from AMD are difficult to obtain in Switzerland. I had to resort to the competition from Digitec. You may find more information on the net.

I have contacted the manufacturer. The models indicated on the website are to be understood as a reference for the 550 in terms of power consumption. The manufacturer's reply:
The compatiblity table is for power compatibility. If your 970 card has 8-pin + 6-pin power connectors, you can use Breakaway Box 350. If you card has 8-pin + 8-pin, you need Breakaway Box 550.
