There is no official way because the companies do not want to be all transparent. You have to find statements of the 3 companies.
Because of the WD Red SMR "scandal", heise (de) did some more research and asked Toshiba and Seagate. They said that their NAS HDD's do not use SMT. read here, in the section "update": https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Manche-WD-Red-Festplatten-fuer-NAS-verursachen-Probleme-4703116.html
That means of the dedicated NAS Hard Drives there are only these Disks using SMR:
WD Red WD20EFAX
WD Red WD40EFAX
WD Red WD60EFAX

The photos showing the disc with the tone arm (without cover) are for illustration purposes only. Hard drives are always protected. They would be too vulnerable without it.
75,000 MB/s corresponds to 75 GB/s. No hard disk in the world can do that.
You always have to distinguish between internal and external transfer rates. The external one is limiting here: 6 Gb/s (SATA III), which corresponds to 0.75 GB/s. This is the absolute maximum you can expect from the hard disk. From experience I can tell you that with a 'normal mix' of files over 10 min you will reach a maximum of about 23 GB/min.
However, I am very satisfied with the hard drives in my NAS.
However, they are not intended for a workstation or a gaming computer. There are other, more suitable products, mostly in 2.5" format or - better - SSD (NVMe).
It already works with a DS920+.
The Digitec specification list says it is the ST4000VN008 model. As it also says in the Synology list. The part you mentioned after the name is not actually mentioned by any dealer.
Only hard drives that have been tested and are therefore officially "recommended" by Synology appear in the Synology list. If a hard drive is not listed, it does not mean that it does not work with one of their NAS.
I have 5 of these HD's installed as Raid 6 in a DS1517+, firmware SC61, DSM 3.2.3-25426 update 2.

You can always wait, after all, everything always gets cheaper.
I bought WD Red Plus because I think the price is reasonable, the HDDs won't get any cheaper in the next few weeks.

Hi, this should not be a problem, as the connection of the hard drives is backwards compatible. Unfortunately, however, the performance will not correspond to that stated in the specifications, as the connection limits some things here.
To be sure, you can check the compatibility list at either Synology or Seagate.
Simply select your NAS model and the compatible hard drives will be displayed. Inserted at the bottom left:

Durability and stability are important. That's why you should always buy the best. It is worth it.

Of course it will work. Any SATA disk can be used, it doesn't have to be the same brand or model. You can even insert a larger capacity disk, if the two are mirrored they will sync up to the original 4TB capacity, and once you replace the second with the same larger capacity, the Synology will automatically adjust the maximum storage capacity to match the installed capacity.
Unfortunately, the quantities offered are already gone.

The hard drive is recognised as compatible according to the manufacturer, as others in the series have passed the compatibility test.
