Yes, it works, the hoover only needs internet if you want to control it remotely or if you need to install new firmware. As a half-price alternative, there is the new Xiaomi Dreame D9 robot hoover. It is also equipped with technology that works as well in principle as the Roborock S5 Max. Xiaomi Dreame D9

The Roborock can certainly manage about 2 cm, if they drive at the right angle onto an obstacle, then even 2.5 cm. In order for the robots to overcome obstacles very well, you can also put silicone rubbers on the wheels, which are actually intended as protective covers. The main problem is not the actual height, but the fact that the wheels are made of relatively hard rubber and therefore don't lift well on the edges of things.

I'm not sure about the 2cm slats. He has already tried to drive out onto the balcony over a threshold of about 1.5 cm. I have no idea about question 2. I don't see any disadvantages of S5Max. It is a good reliable device, cleans well. Especially the damp pick up takes away a good bit of dust. All in all, very satisfied after 1 year of use.
