Can two 3.5" hard drives be used as normal external USB drives? Or is this thing only meant for cloning disks?

Yes, you can install two 3.5" SATA hard drives at the same time and use them via the LC-Power Dock via USB. I bought the device mainly for this purpose and so far it works without any problems.

The manufacturer's page states the following: - 2.5" up to 1TB, 3.5" up to 4TB. Is this correct? Or has anyone had other experiences?

I use a Segate 8TB disk without any problems. These must have been the largest disks at the time. The device is completely OK from my point of view.

Does this dock also work to clone to an SSD? Need a device capable of recognising both 3.5" HDDs and 2.5" SSDs so I can swap both in my desktop tower. The Sharkoon QuickPOrt XT explicitly mentions SSDs, while this one does not. (However, the double slot would be handy).

My SSD and HDD 2.5"/3.5" are recognised. Cloning from SSD to HDD was successful, I did not do it the other way round.
