Can this be connected directly to a record player that has a speaker output, or do I have to do this via an amplifier/receiver?

If the record player had its own amplifier, which I don't think it does, it would work. If it has 2 cinch plugs as output, it needs an amplifier. This in turn, depending on the record player, with a special input provided for it.

Hello, I have the Klipsch R-820F. I am very satisfied with these speakers. I think I could get much more out of them. At the moment I have a Pioneer A-616 amplifier. I think that most of the time it's too bass-heavy, even though you turn the bass control way down. Would you have a recommendation for a really cool sound? Thanks for the help.

I have it 30cm from the wall, and have another AVR calibration with Dirac Live. I have a good bass! But I like it.
