This item comes with 2 different parts in this box. The first part is the card reader. This is for microSD cards. And yes, if the laptop does not have a card reader, you can use this OTG reader with your USB connection to read SD cards.
The second part is the SIM card adapter. These are just adapters for the different sizes of SIM cards. If your computer does not have a sim card slot, this will not allow it to have one.
Therefore, if the laptop does not have this feature, this device will not allow it to have it.
Helpful answer
The sim card reader has USB-A (the big one) on one end and Micro USB on the other. No USB-C.
