According to Garmin, traffic information via DAB is only available in Germany and Italy. Neither in Switzerland nor in France did I have traffic reports via radio this year, only via the app (I would have liked to have known earlier)
Yes, the United Kingdom (England, Scotland) is included in the map coverage for Europe. The map coverage includes the entire European region, which means that the United Kingdom is also included.
The device cannot be charged via a USB-C port. It comes with a vehicle power cable that connects to a cigarette lighter adapter and the port on the device is a USB-A type, not USB-C. A USB-C charging port is not mentioned in the official documentation or in the scope of delivery.
The United Kingdom is covered by the map material of this product, as the map coverage includes Europe. The exact coverage within Europe may vary depending on the specific model, but generally all European countries, including the UK, are included.
The Garmin DriveSmart 66 MT-D is compatible with the Garmin BC 50 reversing camera. The BC 50 has been specially developed for compatible Garmin navigation devices such as the DriveSmart series. You can therefore connect the BC 50 to your Garmin DriveSmart 66 MT-D. The BC 40 is not explicitly mentioned in the compatibility lists, so compatibility with this camera is not guaranteed.
A microSD or microSDHC card is suitable for the Garmin sat nav DriveSmart 66 MT-S.
- Storage capacity: The card can have a capacity of 4 GB to 256 GB, but a 32 GB card is sufficient for your requirements.
- File system: The card must be formatted in the FAT32 file system. If the card is larger than 32 GB, it must be formatted with the device.
- Certification: It is recommended to use a card that is specifically certified for Garmin devices to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.
Garmin DriveSmart devices with the additional designation MT-D receive traffic information via DAB. Only the supplied connection cable with built-in receiver is required. Therefore, no mobile phone is necessary for the pure traffic information! - Additional information such as weather and short-term information can, of course, also be received via the Garmin APP if desired.
Devices with the additional designation MT-S show the traffic information only via the Garmin mobile app. Of course, the mobile must have permanent reception.
It is possible to export the trip log as a GPX file using the free BaseCamp tool.
Importing routes is not possible with the DriveSmart 66. In this case, it is better to use a Zumo device.
So the only difference is whether or not there is an ATM.
Both models can collect traffic information from a smartphone connected via Bluetooth.
The DAB makes it possible to obtain this information without the presence of a smartphone nearby.
Indeed, it seems that this service will cease in 2025 in some countries, but Switzerland does not seem to be concerned.
Note that in some countries this is not available at all.
The big advantage of DAB is that you can receive traffic information without using a mobile network, which can be interesting when you are abroad to avoid roaming charges.
According to the manufacturer, it is possible according to the following instructions:
Open the settings for language and keyboard by selecting Settings > Language and Keyboard in the main menu.
This is possible in a wide variety of languages, e.g. English, French, etc.
It is only possible to connect Alexa devices to the car radio via the adapter and an AUX cable. Unfortunately, this is not possible with this DriveSmart 66.
There is a problem with the system of the navigator. By touching a field, e.g. "Favourites", the background colour turns brown,
but nothing happens
I have learned to live with this so that touching is not too short, not too long and sometimes you have to touch several times.
Instead of sending you the device, waiting a few weeks without a device and getting it back with the same problem, I decided to live with the fact that I am using a poor quality device.

There are really two versions here. One that uses the mobile phone to receive the traffic data and one with the cable included. With this item, a mobile phone would have to be used for the traffic radio. According to the manufacturer's website, however, there is no difference in the data.
This navigation device can only receive traffic data via a paired smartphone.
This Garmin DriveSmart 66 (6 ") can receive the traffic radio via DAB+ and is therefore independent of a connection to the smartphone. However, it is possible to receive the traffic radio via a connected smartphone.
The last Garmin DriveSmart 66 (6 ") has the Alexa voice assistant integrated. The integration of Alexa makes it possible to play music, listen to audio books or the news by voice command. Traffic information is only available on this model via a paired smartphone.
