The device does up to 10Gbit. In which case is that relevant at all? Most HDD/SDDs can't do that anyway. Can someone enlighten me on this?

Yes, it is true that it is unlikely that the 10 GB/s speed would be achieved with the announced HDDs or even if SSDs were installed. It just ensures in this way that the USB interface is certainly not the decelerating factor. For reference: HDD transfer rate approx. 175 MB/s SATA3-SSD write/read rate approx. 560 MB/s

Is this box usable on a synology NAS if you plug it into the USB socket on the back of the NAS 5 outside the NAS Volume, rather like a large external drive?

Here is the answer from our responsible department: Unfortunately, it is not possible to connect the hard disk enclosure to a NAS server. The reason is that this hard disk enclosure requires a driver for communication with the hardware/software. The driver cannot be installed on the NAS server.
