WiFi 5 can also be used. I had both versions combined, then switched to 6 despite the high costs. Unfortunately, the throughput is more or less the same as its predecessor Wifi 5. It's just marketing to convert customers...
Hi Likk69
Powerline rather not - for Powerline you have to be in the same "circuit". Especially in apartment buildings there is usually at least one circuit per flat. My current flat even has two circuits, so I can't take Powerline from the right-hand side of the flat to the left-hand side. 😅
Accordingly, you can of course try it out...
Do you have mobile network reception in your hobby room?
Hi Mikao
Unfortunately, there's not much you can do, as I'm sure you've already opened the packaging. I have now bought the starter unit, then it works, but you can't do anything with the other one except try to sell it on, as I did, which unfortunately has not been possible until now.
As an extension, I ordered the following "Devolo Magic 2 WiFi next extension (2400Mbit/s)". The transmission speed then also matches exactly. I would test/measure the WLAN coverage and where the extension should best be plugged in with the mobile phone.
The dlan adapters use the HomePlug standard, the Magic 2 adapters use the G.hn standard. These two standards are not compatible but can be operated in parallel. You cannot connect the Magic 2 adapter with the dlan adapters.
It works for us, we have not tested how and when the WiFi switches, but we have no problem with it. At the end of the product description: --> Note: devolo Magic adapters are compatible with all routers, network devices, devolo Magic adapters and products certified by the HomeGrid Forum. ...
Yes, you can establish a good connection across several floors with the Powerline system. The technology uses the power line to transmit the Internet signal, which makes it more reliable than conventional WiFi repeaters. The devolo Magic 2 WiFi next adapters offer a powerline speed of up to 2400 Mbps and a WiFi speed of up to 1200 Mbps, which should be sufficient for controlling a washing machine with app control.
However, it is important to adjust the number of adapters according to the size of your home. A Starter Kit with two adapters is suitable for up to 120 m², while a Multiroom Kit with three adapters is recommended for up to 180 m².
"Speed brake instead of turbo: Magic Powerline upgrade disappointing"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The test results of the Magic Powerline adapters were disappointing overall.
Despite various combinations of settings (2400 Mbps MIMO, 1200 Mbps SISO) and switching between different protocols, no noticeable improvement was achieved compared to my older dLAN 1200+ adapters (purchased in 2015).
The measured transfer rates were consistently in the range of 100-150 Mbps, far below the promised maximum possible 2400 Mbps.
- Both the powerline connection and the connection via a Wi-Fi mesh network proved to be slower than a direct Wi-Fi connection via the primary SSID.
- Conclusion: "Speed brake instead of turbo: Magic powerline upgrade disappointing"
I have returned the product.
I need a little advice: I have a 100m2 flat, in the living room on one side of the wall is installed the internet box, because the fiber optic socket is on this side and to avoid pulling an Ethernet cable to the opposite wall where is the TV and a TV box requiring a connection via cable, I wanted to buy this kit.
My first question is if this kit is useful for my needs and especially if it is interesting to not have to run cables along the walls etc?
What is the difference between this kit and the wifi 6 kit?
Also, I wanted to use the second wifi device to place it in the room that serves as an office which is on the other side of the flat about 25-30m away from the main router.
It will be enough for the TV in any case, probably also for your office. The 2400Mbits/s are rarely reached. With short direct power lines, it may be close. But even in the office, there will probably be enough speed to be able to play online games smoothly. I am satisfied with it. It is easy to install and you can change the location at any time. The adapters should always be directly in a socket, not via multiple distributors. The WLAN transmission rate is higher with the Wifi-6 kit. It's up to each person to decide whether the extra charge is worth it. I don't need it.
