According to the brand, you need to pay some fees if you don't want to see the ads.
"Important: Your 1-Click payment method is charged for a one-time payment when you unsubscribe from ads and sponsored screensavers.
- Go to Manage Your Content and Devices.
- Select Devices, and then select your device.
- Under Special Offers, click Remove offers. A pop-up window then displays the price to remove ads. Select

I think that was the case. But that's no problem... You have enough USB-C cables lying around from mobile phones...
There are ads on the lockscreen but once I unlock the kindle to continue reading there are no ads. Hope this helps.
