Yes, Skype should work without Alexa.

I think it is a international version, it just depends where it will use! In Switzerland you can not use Alexa yet. You have to make an account from Germany!

Is Alexa now available for Switzerland? I would use it in a nursing home and would like to have it voice-controlled for video chat (e.g. Alex video chat with Andrea!). Do I only need a wifi? Thank you

At the moment, the Amazon Alexa app is not available for Switzerland, which means that the Echo Show 5 can only be used in a very limited way. However, voice control only works for functions for which the Amazon Alexa app is not needed. I tried to activate video chat via voice control and via settings on the Echo device, but without success. You can configure your device via alexa.amazon.de, but currently not all functions are available for Switzerland. I could not find video chat. Alexa Show 5 needs WiFi and the easiest way to assign the IP address is via DHCP, i.e. the device should automatically get an IP address via router or access point. You then only have to enter the network name and password during configuration. For me, the device is a failure. If I had known about the massively limited functionality, I would never have bought the device. I hope that the Amazon Alexa app will soon be available for Switzerland.
