All Profoto softboxes feature a recessed front for attaching a grid. The grid reduces the beam angle to 50°. In other words, it provides a more focused light and minimizes excessive spill light. This allows you to direct the light even more precisely. By limiting light spread, a grid helps create more contrast in images, resulting in a dramatically moodier look. Reducing unwanted spill light is especially useful when you want to avoid lighting the background or surrounding areas.
