Product details
Ploytec are mainly known as a supplier for various instrument manufacturers, with the tiny hardware synth Pi L Squared and Pi L Squared "Leukos" they now have their first synthesizers on the line. These are vaporized to the most necessary: in the small plastic box is the chip with D/A converter, there is a MIDI input, a mini USB and a mono output as cinch. The ingenious synth cube gets power either via USB or the MIDI input.
The differences between Pi L Squared (black) and Pi L Squared Leukos (white) are
- Pi L Squared (black) has a MIDI input, USB port is used for power supply
- Pi L Squared Leukos (white) has a USB input (MIDI) and a MIDI output
- > So you can now connect a Leukos via USB directly to a computer and thanks to the MIDI output (Leukos) even a Pi L Squared can be connected!
Despite this extremely reduced surface, it is a full-fledged synthesizer from the inside, which can be completely remote-controlled via MIDI control changes and offers full-grown, though unusual synthesis features: the duophonic 8-bit synthesizer comes with two square wave oscillators with pulse width modulation, followed by an analog and a digital filter and an analog saturation stage. This and the modulation possibilities (LFO, ADSR envelope and ModWheel, which can control up to seven parameters simultaneously) create a very special sound, which is quite unique because of the peculiar components and the unusual structure: crunchy, noisy, crunchy, scratchy, sizzling, sometimes heavily distorted and with a good portion of artifacts. The Pi L Squared doesn't sound like a typical 8-bit synth with the usual daft game sounds, but can deliver wide, phasing pads and thick analog basslines in addition to digital crunchy sounds. A real secret weapon!
