Product details
In addition to atmospheric turbulence, the brightening of the night sky is the biggest obstacle to observing faint objects beyond the solar system. Due to streetlights and other artificial lighting, the sky in human settlements is no longer truly black. This also affects the contrast and thus the perception of deep-sky objects. However, depending on the type of celestial object, it is possible to filter out some of the disturbing light, making the observation of these objects easier. The Explore Scientific UHC Nebula Filter takes advantage of the properties of so-called emission nebulae. These objects emit light in specific colors, known as emission lines. The emission lines are associated with certain chemical elements—in this case, hydrogen and oxygen. The Explore Scientific UHC Nebula Filter blocks all other colors and almost all artificial light, allowing only the emission lines of hydrogen at 486 nm and 656 nm, as well as the oxygen lines at 496 nm and 501 nm, to pass through. The effect is astonishing: suddenly, nebulae become visible in areas that appear completely empty without a filter. Under slightly brightened skies, some relatively bright nebulae are practically invisible with a telescope, such as the Owl Nebula M97, the Veil Nebula Ngc 6992, or even the Dumbbell Nebula M27. With this filter, nebulae can be seen without any issues. A must-have for every visual amateur astronomer. The Explore Scientific Nebula Filters come with an individual test report, ensuring that you receive high-quality filters.
