Bluetooth tags play a significant role in IoT setups where Bluetooth is used to transmit data over short distances. You can use these small devices for environment-based tracking of various objects. For example, if you place a KNOT gateway at different locations on a construction site, you can use these tags to locate construction tools, electrical devices, and other equipment.

Simply attach the tags to the necessary items, and the nearest gateway will detect the tags in its vicinity. Exceptionally useful in warehouse logistics – get notified about your cargo as soon as it arrives at the warehouse! They consume so little power that a single integrated 220 mAh battery can last for years.

Once activated, the tag sends iBeacon, Eddystone, or MikroTik telemetry advertising packets to the gateway (such as the KNOT or any other BLE gateway). These packets contain the MAC address used for the ID, as well as telemetry data such as acceleration, tilt, and battery level. The gateway then transmits the data to the remote server using MQTT or HTTP protocols. By default, advertising packets are sent every 5 seconds, but you can change this value as desired. For example, if you set the interval to 1 second, the battery typically lasts for two years. The built-in accelerometers can not only detect accelerations (movements) but also whether the device has fallen or been tilted (free fall detection). The indoor version of the BLE tag works best in a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C. It is splash-proof and comes with a built-in accelerometer.
