Samurai Warriors 5 is a reinterpretation of the franchise, featuring a different story, revamped character designs, and a stylish visual presentation. The title allows players to experience the Samurai Warriors saga during the Sengoku period, focusing on Nobunaga Oda and Mutsuhide Akechi. Samurai Warriors 5 includes 27 playable characters, including returning warriors like Leyasu Tokugawa and Hideyoshi Hashiba, as well as Nō and Yoshimoto Imagawa. A new character, Mitsuki, a Kōga ninja, has also been added. More characters will be revealed ahead of the launch. All character designs in the game have been completely overhauled to fit the Sengoku period of the storyline. The intense high-action drama unfolds during Japan's Sengoku period, telling the story of two of the most significant military commanders of that time - Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi. Samurai Warriors 5 showcases various eras from this time, including Nobunaga's younger years when he was known as "Owari's Great Fool," and the tumultuous times leading up to the Honnō-ji Incident.
