In Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening, players experience the life of a daimyō, a powerful Japanese leader, during the turbulent times of the Sengoku period in 16th century Japan. As the head of their own clan, players must make the best decisions in key areas such as economy, diplomacy, and military power, with the hope of ultimately unifying the country. They are supported by retainers, AI officers who think and act at their own discretion. The retainers provide players with templates to assist in planning their battle strategies.

Additionally, Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening will feature various elements fitting for the 40th anniversary of the series, including milestones and achievements that will influence strategy. Players can also look forward to a variety of scenarios, events, policies, and more, as well as elements from previous titles, such as an editing feature that allows them to modify officer status, background music, and scenarios or create new clans.
