Extended Compatibility through Adapters
Adapters allow the use of different lenses on various cameras, even if they were not originally designed for each other and have different mounts. In most cases, the imaging behavior of the lens does not change with the use of an adapter, as meticulous attention is paid to the design of the adapter. Usually, the ability to focus to infinity is also preserved, which may not be possible with some combinations due to excessive distances between the lens and the sensor.
Kipon MAF-N/Z Adapter: Minolta AF Lenses on Nikon Z Cameras
This adapter allows the use of Minolta AF lenses on cameras with a Nikon Z mount. Minolta AF lenses do not have an aperture ring; the aperture is typically set by the camera. When using this adapter, the aperture can be manually and continuously adjusted via an aperture ring on the adapter. Special care should be taken when mounting wide-angle and fisheye lenses onto the adapter.
Manual Operation
Some adapters transmit electrical signals between the camera and lens, allowing for fully automatic exposure programs and autofocus. Others do not, requiring the photographer to operate the lens manually—however, this is not a significant obstacle even for beginners in photography. With this adapter, only manual operation with Minolta AF lenses is possible.
Compatible with Sony A Lenses
Lenses from the Sony A series can also be mounted on this adapter. They are then also usable only in manual mode. Their aperture can only be controlled on the lens itself, not via the aperture ring on the adapter. The Minolta AF mount is also known as Minolta A.
