Product details
The payload of one and a half tons made it possible to successfully use the Unimog S as an ambulance. Such vehicles were built with closed standard bodies in various configurations. The interior of the bodies could be customized according to needs, for example, to accommodate four stretchers or to combine stretchers and seats. Wide doors at the rear of the body facilitated loading with stretchers. The ambulances featured large white circles with red crosses to aid identification, a detail that was of great importance in connection with potential military operations. As with the standard utility vehicles, there were also various versions of the bodies throughout their service, differing in details such as the roof, windows, etc. Due to their excellent off-road capability and good performance, these vehicles were in service with the Bundeswehr for many years. The total number of produced Unimog S 404 ambulances is estimated to be around 2,000 units.
