The halogen-free installation cable Cat 8.1 (Link Class I) S/FTP PIMF supports transmission speeds of up to 40 Gigabits per second (Gbit/s) at a maximum cable length of 30 meters with an RJ45 connector. Cat 8.1 typically uses field-terminable keystone metal or metal connectors (tool-free assembly).

Cat 8.1 Ethernet cables are primarily used for server rooms, data centers, and for connecting switches or in home environments for transferring large amounts of data from A to B, from NAS to PC, for example, for 4K video editing, while Cat 7 and Cat 6a cables are designed for a maximum of 10 Gbit/s. The difference between Cat 7 and Cat 6a is the frequency. The bandwidth, measured in MHz, indicates how many bits and bytes (data) can be transmitted in one second.
