The Porsche 928 was unveiled in March 1977 in Geneva. It was intended to replace the 911 and to inherit all the qualities and performance of earlier Porsches while also meeting all conceivable future regulatory requirements. In the United States, which accounted for about fifty percent of total Porsche production, sales of the 928 began in 1978 with a price of $26,000.
