The SAS/SATA technology offers a performance boost over traditional SCSI connections. Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial ATA (SATA) are serial point-to-point peripheral interfaces where the controllers are directly connected to the drives. This technology supports full-duplex signal transmission at speeds of up to 12 Gb/s. SAS devices can communicate with both SAS and SATA devices. A key difference between SAS and SATA devices is that SAS devices can have two data ports, each located in a different SAS domain. This allows for complete failover redundancy. If one path fails, communication continues over a separate and independent path. The PSAS CP500e, a SAS/SATA host bus adapter with eight ports, provides enhanced connectivity and maximum performance for high-end servers and applications in both internal and external storage. The performance is based on the Broadcom SAS3408 IO controller, which integrates the latest advancements in SAS and PCI Express 3.1 technology. The PSAS CP500e features two external x4 miniSAS HD ports (SFF-8644) and enables a low-profile solution that can achieve over 1 million IOPs.
