ND filters reduce the brightness of the entire image without altering the color. They can be used for a variety of applications:

• Extending shutter speed for brightness corrections
• Extending shutter speed to enable flash synchronization
• Day-for-night effect when using flash
• Removing moving objects in architectural shots (at high densities)
• Ghosting effects (blurring) on water and clouds (at high densities)

ND filters can be combined in filter holders with additional ND filters (to increase light reduction) or with graduated filters.

How to calculate the f-stop reduction of ND filters?
The density of ND filters is specified in increments of 0.3. To obtain the f-stop reduction, multiply the value by 10 and then divide by 3.

Example:
0.3 x 10 = 3 | 3 = 1 stop
1.2 x 10 = 12 | 3 = 4 stops
4.8 x 10 = 48 | 3 = 16 stops.
