These shielded patch and connection cables feature a shielded RJ45 connector, a molded strain relief, and a bend protection sleeve in the color of the cable jacket, as well as a locking tab protection on both sides. Unlike conventional PVC cables, these cables are halogen-free: the dangerous release of halogen-containing combustion gases is thus excluded, and smoke generation is minimized. Halogen-free cables are also flame-retardant, and there is no dangerous ignition cord effect. Category 6 augmented is a standard that arises from the increased bandwidth requirements of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-T). Cat 6A cables are designed for transmission frequencies of up to 500 MHz and distances of up to 100 meters, and they are backward compatible with existing categories.
