These shielded patch and connection cables feature a shielded connector, a molded strain relief, and a bend protection sleeve in the color of the cable jacket, as well as a locking tab protection on both sides. Unlike conventional PVC cables, these cables are halogen-free: the dangerous release of halogen-containing combustion gases is thus excluded, and smoke generation is minimized. Halogen-free cables are also flame-retardant, and there is no dangerous ignition cord effect.

Screened Foiled Twisted Pair refers to cables that have a metallic shield around each pair of conductors (FTP) and an additional overall metallic shield (S). Shielded cables exhibit minimal impedance or reactance deviations compared to unshielded cables. The transmission parameters remain relatively constant and better than those of UTP cables, even at high frequencies. Category 6 augmented is a standard that arises from the increased bandwidth requirements of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-T). Cat 6A cables are designed for transmission frequencies up to 500 MHz and distances up to 100 m, and they are backward compatible with existing categories.
