Typically, larger filters or attachments in diameter are adapted to smaller lens diameters. For example, in a camera setup that includes lenses with 52 mm and 49 mm filter threads, these rings allow the use of 52 mm filters on both lens groups. This not only saves money but also reduces volume and weight in the camera bag.
